I had visited this wonderful place couple of months back. Kodachadri is located around 2 hours drive from Shimoga, it is known for breath taking sun rise and sunsets views, from the peak we can see both sunrise and sunset.
One can trek to the top which would be a day trek for the round trip, there is jeep shuttle from the base as well. We took jeep as in our group there were people who could not trek so long. If I remember correctly the round trip in jeep cost us ~1000/-. I personally regret for not trekking, will do it for sure next time.
The place is heaven for nature lovers, lush green forest with beautiful views
and the smell of nature defines what purity is. Though we reached the peak for sun rise, to our bad luck it was a very cloudy day that ruled out any possibility of getting a glimpse of the beautiful event. Nevertheless the feeling of standing on the peak where the entire valley covered with clouds was out of world. I would recommend this place for everyone, it can be done on a weekend if you are in Bangalore. There seems to be a KSRTC bus that leaves Bangalore at 8.30 PM and reaches Kodachadri at 6.30 AM. If you are using Shimoga as base, do visit Badhra dam for sure. There is Jungle Lodges "River Tern" resort, must visit for bird lovers to watch thousands of terns nesting during the season.
You can expect basic facilities at the peak, there is a forest guest house, It did not look great though.... I have also notices people camping there.
